Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) For Employers
What is an LMIA?
If an employer in Canada wants to hire a temporary foreign worker, they must determine if they need to complete an LMIA.
The Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is meant to prove that an employer cannot fill their position with a Canadian or Permanent Resident and must hire a temporary foreign worker for their needs.
The LMIA should demonstrate:
- No Canadian or Permanent Resident is available fill your job / position
- There is a strong need for a temporary foreign worker
- There is a skill shortage that requires a temporary worker
- If hiring a temporary foreign worker will have a positive or negative impact on the Canadian Labour Market
If a positive LMIA is received, the temporary foreign worker should include this as part of their work permit application.
There is a $1,000 LMIA application fee for each temporary foreign worker position
