Medical Inadmissibility
Who is affected by medical inadmissibility when entering Canada?
Anyone applying to visit, study, work or live permanently in Canada, is affected by Medical Inadmissibility.
What happens if I am found inadmissible to enter Canada?
When you apply to enter Canada, a Canadian immigration officer will decide if individuals are admissible or inadmissible for a visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). This decision to admit you into Canada can also be decided at a Canadian port of entry (POE).
There are 3 potential reasons for medical inadmissibility:
- Danger to public health
- Danger to public safety
- Excessive demand on health
An Immigration Medical Exam (IME) certificate is valid for 12 months from the date of the medical examination. Without a valid medical certificate, the individual can be refused entry into Canada.
