Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents can sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residence in Canada. It is a great initiative by the Government of Canada that helps in uniting families. How can a person qualify to sponsor their parents or grandparents? The person who wants to sponsor their parents or grandparents should meet the following requirements and be: At least 18 years old. A Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or an Indian registered under the Canadian Indian Act. Living in Canada. Able to demonstrate that they have enough funds to financially support the people they are sponsoring. What is the income requirement to sponsor parents and grandparents? The person sponsoring will submit an interest to sponsor form online when the application window opens every year. IRCC would randomly select applicants as per the quota for the year. Randomly selected applications would receive an Invitation to Apply. An application package would be sent to the applicants. They have 60 days to submit an application from the date they receive an invitation to apply. The application fees are paid. The application for parents or grandparents sponsorship is submitted. The sponsored parents or grandparents will need to provide medicals, police clearance certificates and biometrics when requested by IRCC. What is the processing time for parents or grandparents sponsorship applications? The processing time for parents or grandparents sponsorship applications is 20-24 months.
