Refugee Asylum
What happens when a person claims asylum in Canada?
Claiming asylum or making a refugee claim in Canada can be done in one of two ways.
- At a Canadian Port of Entry (POE) or at an inland Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Either a CBSA officer or an IRCC officer will determine the individual’s eligibility to make a refugee claim.
- The second way to make a refugee claim, is to make a claim from within Canada. In this option, the individual is required to submit a complete application. The application provides information on particular aspects as your life, such as;
- Your background
- Your family
- And the details of why you want to make a Canadian refugee claim
